The tale of Celeste, a devoted mother dog, has captured the hearts of people all around the internet. Despite being mild-mannered, affectionate, and caring, poor Celeste was callously abandoned at the tender age of two, while she was pregnant. She was forced to survive on the streets and give birth to her pups without any protection or aid. Due to the tough life of a street dog, Celeste had become severely malnourished while trying her best to look after her beloved puppies. In addition to dealing with the harsh realities of life without a home, she had to provide food and care for five little ones, which must have been incredibly difficult. It’s no wonder then that when Celeste and her puppies were discovered they were extremely emaciated, but that didn’t stop her from being an amazing mother. As her foster mom Elaine explained, “She was so thin, and those little pups were suckling away, and despite being hungry and depleted, she kept performing her motherly duties.”
The puppies of Celeste were found to be in excellent condition despite their difficult beginning. Due to her efforts to keep all five of her pups alive, Celeste bore the marks of malnutrition on her body. For around five months, the caring mother had done everything possible to protect and maintain her offspring’s health. Finally, it was Celeste who received attention and care. The BC SPCA stated that “Celeste would sooner go hungry than allow her puppies to go without food. She has given up everything to ensure their safety, living a harsh outdoor life. Now, it’s time for her to experience the same love and care.”
Destiny played its part when Celeste and her adorable puppies were taken in by Elaine Nelson-Hosak, a compassionate foster mom from BC SPCA. After the demise of her beloved friend, Celeste entered her life as if it was preordained. They were meant to be together- Celeste and her puppies needed love, care, and attention, while Elaine needed a furry companion to heal her broken heart. It was a match made in heaven.
After implementing a meticulous “refeeding” plan, Celeste was able to steadily improve her weight and strength. Her body responded positively to the intake of six small, nutrient-rich meals daily, resulting in a remarkable weight gain of 90 pounds. Moreover, four out of the five puppies she had have already been adopted into loving homes, and their reunion was a heartwarming event.
It was evident that she had finally found her forever abode as she responded positively to therapy and developed a strong bond with her foster mother. Fondly referred to as “Momma,” Celeste’s life is now filled with the joys of being a pampered pup – cuddling on the couch with her family and basking in the warmth of the fire. This new life is a stark contrast from her previous days spent on the streets, struggling to survive. However, she has now found her true purpose and is thriving in a safe and loving environment, where she feels secure and cherished.
